Call for abstract

The Research Chefs Association (RCA) invites the submission of original research and abstracts on any aspect of culinary arts, food science, or Culinlology® discipline for presentation at RCA’s 2018 Conference in Savannah, GA March 26-28, 2018.

2018 RCA PROGRAM CATEGORIES

In 2018, RCA programming will focus on the following general areas. Abstract submissions and final white papers should fit into one or more of these categories.

PRESENTATION FORMATS

15 Minute Presentation

Presentations will be during RCA Conference breakout sessions. Up to 6 abstracts will be selected for full white paper development and a 15 minute presentation. Two breakout sessions have been dedicated to the white paper sessions and three presenters will deliver their presentation during each one. Sessions are scheduled for Monday, March 26th and Wednesday, March 28th.

PRESENTER INFORMATION AND REIMBURSEMENT POLICY

RCA appreciates the work, dedication and expertise required to prepare an abstract and white paper.  RCA does not reimburse those submitting abstracts for travel, hotel, registration fees or other expenses incurred during the 2018 RCA Conference. 

Those selected for full White Paper and presentation at the 2018 RCA Conference in Savannah, GA will receive a complimentary Registration to the Conference, but this will not include travel, hotel, or other expenses incurred during the conference.

ABSTRACT AND WHITE PAPER GUIDELINES

Submission Deadline: November 1, 2017

Abstract submission must be submitted to RCA Headquarters, no later than 11:59 p.m. Central Daylight time, November 1, 2017.  Initial Submission for the abstract should be no more than 3,500 keystrokes (includes spaces, punctuation, and characters).

Full name, Institution/Company, Address, Zip Code, City, State, Country, Telephone, and  E-mail of the presenting author is required. Title and body of the abstract are included in the 3,500 keystroke limit, but authors information is not included. Abstracts should contain an objective statement, materials and methods, results with statistical interpretation, and a conclusion statement.

Acceptance/rejection date: November 7, 2017

Authors will be notified of their selection to submit the full white paper and present at the 2018 RCA Conference. 

Final White Paper Deadline: February 1, 2018

White Paper should include Title Page, Contents, Forward, Abstract, Introduction, Objective, Protocol and Methodology, Consensus, Conclusion, and References.  White paper should be no less than 3000 words and no more than 8000 words.

ABSTRACT AND WHITE PAPER SELECTION CRITERIA

RCA reserves the right to select or reject abstracts submitted for review to the RCA programming committee based on quality factors including, but not limited merit and relevancy to culinary arts, food science and Culinology®

ABSTRACT AND WHITE PAPER REVIEW AND ACCEPTANCE

Abstracts will be peer-reviewed by members of the RCA Programming Committee.

Possible reasons for abstract rejection:

  • Information has previously been published or presented and is not new
  • Information and Methodology is not appropriate or informative
  • The information is incomplete and appears to be ongoing
  • Information is to promote commercial products, not science, as the primary goal
  • Do not follow the format instructions
  • Numerous language errors
  • Topic not relevant to RCA members

ABSTRACT AND WHITE PAPER WITHDRAWAL

If your plans change and you are no longer able to attend the RCA Conference please notify the headquarters team as soon as possible. If you wish to withdrawal you abstract and whitepaper from the Conference agenda you must submit your request in writing to education@culinology.org by February 1, 2018 to avoid publication.
