Get to Know Bryan

Bryan Fluech is the Associate Marine Extension Director for the University of Georgia Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant Program. He joined the unit in December of 2015, and is based out of Brunswick, GA. Mr. Fluech is responsible for coordinating Extension programs throughout UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant. This includes collaborating with faculty, staff and stakeholders to conduct applied research, outreach, and education programs focused on healthy coastal ecosystems, sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, resilient communities and economies, and environment literacy and workforce development.

Bryan’s Extension projects specifically focus on working with Georgia’s fishing industries to remain viable and educating consumers about Georgia’s seafood industry. Prior to coming to UGA, Bryan worked as a Florida Sea Grant Extension Agent and County Extension Director with the University of Florida for nearly ten years. Besides his Extension work, Bryan’s career has also included teaching middle and high school science, working as naturalist as well as conducting field work in freshwater and coastal wetland systems. Bryan has a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the University of Tennessee and a Master’s Degree in Secondary Science Education from the University of Florida. He and his wife Tammy have two children Jackson (9) and Maggie (7), and when he has free time, enjoys fishing, diving, and being in the outdoors.
